Grand Falls-Windsor and its Development Woes

What will it take to get the town of Grand Falls-Windsor back to the economic power house that it once was? For many years Grand Falls as it was once known was the economic work horse for Central Newfoundland. Today there seems to be a shift of power to our neighbors down the highway to the east where most big box stores and other major retailers are setting up shop. Did we do right when we drove Die-Trac, Cara House and other business to other communities? Is there a fear of being swallowed up by the big box stores? Just recently a group of concerned citizens were outraged at the fact that a hotel and a treatment center for youth has asked for a parcel of land. One parcel was along the river banks the other near the trans-Canada highway. It's time for all concerned to take a breather before we have the same result as Die-Trac. What about the group homes in the community? What about the people being treated with methadone right here in town? Are we afraid of the unknown? Any hotel or treatment center built will have all the safe guards and the integrity of the river in place. It is time to show that Grand Falls-Windsor is open for business.
